Big love to everyone who joined us last month to celebrate our relaunch and christen the new 77 dancefloor! With spring now sprung, we’re keeping the momentum in full swing as we settle into our revamped digs with a stacked September program that celebrates everything we love about underground club culture. Three nights a week, expect local heroes, rising stars, interstate favourites and the city’s best collectives serving up house, techno, bass, breaks, rave and all manner of left-of-centre sounds. From our crew-led ‘In Residence’ Fridays and flagship Saturday nights to Estée Louder’s CONTROL on Sundays, 77’s next chapter is well underway.
Fridays at 77
Ushering spring in style, we’re chuffed to welcome back Ayebatonye joined by DJ and producer Shuko for a night of eclectic global grooves and unabashed house this Friday. From there, our ‘In Residence’ series hands Fridays over to our fresh crop of resident crews, kicking off with Love Message hosting Sydney legend Kate Doherty on 11th September with Milkpaste in support. On Friday 18th, Ciara goes back-to-back with Setwun for her Konti Lang project, with a bill rounded out by Mango and Eora party-starter Disco Dora. Closing out Fridays for September, everyone’s favourite queer cats Fur Coat invite Harry Court to the 77 decks for a deliciously chuggy excursion into Balearica and beyond.
Club 77 Saturdays
Saturday night remains the backbone of our dancefloor, with another heady mix of special guests and 77 residents serving up quality house, techno and harder-to-define grooves. Mazzacles gets things moving on Saturday 5 September alongside deep house purveyors Papania Collective, before electronic music stalwart Deepchild and walking music encyclopaedia Reenie take charge on Saturday 12 September. New Zealand’s Eden Burns - crafter of some of the hottest house joints known to humankind - joins the T-U-N-E man himself, Barney Kato, on 19 September, before Australian dance music royalty DJ JNETT and Planet Trip’s Mike Who join forces for a night of deep digging.
77 x Control Sundays
As ever, Sundays are in the safe hands of Estée Louder and her CONTROL series, keeping the weekend ignited with a reliably adventurous cast of selectors. Coming in hot from our relaunch party last month, Rydeen and SOVBLKPSSY return for a night of global club sounds, heavy bass and underground rave cuts. On Sunday 13 September, DJ Loner (check her excellent recent cut ‘Girl Is Banging’) brings her singular blend of jackin’ house and acid-fuelled madness alongside Gemma. The energy stays firmly in the red on 20 September as rising stars TROY BEMAN and godofsexkingofacid step up for a no-holds-barred Sunday session. Then on Sunday 27 September, Karmel Jäger and Rakish take command of the 77 booth for a full-throttle rave workout.
