"Brazil has got a great thing going on": Mendel shares his favourite tracks of 2024

The Amsterdam-based digger offers up six dance floor gems ahead of his Asia-Pacific tour.

DJ Mendel's Top Tracks

A revered selector never bound by genre, DJ Mendel's sets brim with diverse cuts spanning the gamut of dance music.

If it has groove, it's fair game. As such, it comes as no surprise that only one of his most played tracks of 2024 was released this year.

From Chicago house legend Ron Trent's unique take on a jazzy Brazilian cut, to some Motown euphoria and a dash of digital funk courtesy of London's Richard Sen, here are six treasures straight from Mendel's record bag to your ear holes.

Diogo Strausz - Emancipação (Ron Trent Remix)

As an outsider it feels like Brazil has got a great thing going at the moment. So much good new music, electronic as well as more organic. Diogo Strausz has created a bunch of quality records. In this case it’s lovely to see the synergy with grand master Ron Trent.

Anthony Nicholson - The Rhythm

I’m a big fan of Anthony Nicholson's work. I’ve played this at every party since it was released. Quite a stripped back track, but it really pulls you into a different realm.

Richard Sen - Social Science

I only recently got hip to Richard Sen’s music. Really like how he mixes styles - dubby disco, traditional Indian music, bumpy electro. This is an oldie but he just released an album as well.

Cast Of Thousands - Givin' My Love (Rhodes of Lunch Pail Mix)

Some classic 90s house music; love the gentle deepness to this song—good for late hours to cool things down.

KCC & Emile - Heaven (Heavenly Mix)

I’ve been playing this a lot recently. It always seems to get people locked in. I think I will play it a couple times more during this Asia-Pacific tour, before it goes on sabbatical.

21st Creation - Tailgate

It's on Motown Records and the group is from Chicago, but it kinda sounds like a Philly tune. A fierce rhythm section combined with sweet orchestration and proper heartfelt singing, just how I like it. Great for the euphoric moments!
