If you only had one day in New York City, where would you go and what would you do?
Forget the travel influencers; the best advice for getting to know a city is to ask a local. Which is why we enlisted the help of our good friend BRUX - the born-and-bred Sydney DJ and producer turned NYC native - to share with us her favourite way to spend a 24 hours in The Big Apple.
7am: Morning stroll in Prospect Park
I love to take my little doggy Daisy for a long walk in Prospect Park and start the day fresh. Sometimes with coffee in hand!
9am: Breakfast at Three Decker Diner
I'm a big diner fan and my favourite go-to for breakfast or brunch is the Three Decker Diner in Greenpoint. I actually just shot some new press shots in there last month.
11am: Vintage fashion shopping in Chinatown
If you want eccentric 90s Y2K couture then James Veloria in Chinatown is the place to go. I love to go there for inspiration.
12pm: Peruse books in Carroll Gardens
Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens is a fantastic shop. I spend a lot of time there browsing through non-fiction gems.
1:30pm: Lunch in East Village
There’s a cute Japanese spot that opened up recently called Tokuyamatcha & Onigirazu Bar which is amazing. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall and has the best onigirazu (sushi sandwiches). The pork katsu is next level.
4pm: Get cultural in Noho
Merchant’s House Museum is the best-preserved 19th century tenement house in NYC (built-in 1832) and you can tour the structure from top to bottom, viewing the original owners' possessions. It'd creepy but cool. There are rumours from tour guides that it's haunted, and I definitely experienced some strange happenings when I toured it a few years ago. Well worth visiting, giving you solid insight into wealthy families living luxuriously during that period.
7pm: Cocktails in West Village
Bandits in West Village is a super cool dive bar with a stylish retro walnut interior. They do a great dirty gin martini and cosmo!and I definitely experienced some strange happenings when I toured it a few years ago. Well worth visiting, giving you solid insight into wealthy families living luxuriously during that period.
8pm: Dinner in Manhattan
Italian is my #1 cuisine and my favourite spot at the moment is Ciccio on 6th Ave in Manhattan. Heavenly and simple, fresh pasta and Chianti.
10pm: Boogie sesh at Public Records
Public Records in Gowanus is my favourite club / sound system in the city. I've seen a lot of great shows there over the years and will be playing there with Machinedrum in April this year!
Brux plays Club 77 Thursday 23 January alongside Reenie and Deepchild. Full event info HERE
