The English DJ takes on our rapid fire quiz.

Favourite film of 2024?

Pass! Hardly watch TV or films at all! Nothing comes to mind right now.

The TV series you can’t stop watching?

Ahh the usual - Curb, Sopranos, The Wire. The usual - Curb, Sopranos, The Wire.

The last book you read?

The Awakened Brain - The Psychology of Spirituality by Lisa Miller. A beautiful book based on rigorous scientific evidence on the healing power of spirituality on mental health. I became interested in prayer, spirituality and conscious awareness via my recovery work as an addict in a fellowship. I don’t follow any specific religion, but I pray to a god of my understanding. This could be, mother nature, the universe etc.

Best album of 2024?

I enjoyed albums from Cleo Sol, Doechi, LCSM, Bilal, Allysha Joy, Lynda Dawn and Galliano. I enjoyed albums from Cleo Sol, Doechi, LCSM, Bilal, Allysha Joy, Lynda Dawn and Galliano.

The first CD/vinyl/cassette you remember buying?

I could never forget and I still have it. A 7-inch of Fun Boy Three's cover of 'Summer Time', which I bought at Woolworths on Newmarket High Street. A bizarre and interesting choice for a 6 year-old. My parents really weren’t that cool in terms of their music taste, but I had a baby sitter / older friend who was in their early teens and we’d watch Top of The Pops. The early-to-mid 80’s were a great time for music and you’d have things as diverse as Erik B and Rakim - ‘Paid in Full’, MARRS - ‘Pump Up The Volume’ and Musical Youth - ‘Pass The Dutchie’ all riding high in the charts. At a very young age I became quite obsessed with music and indeed buying records. Shouts out to Uncle Ade too, who turned me onto a lot of soul! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1QPdXBwLtg

The track you haven’t been able to stop listening to lately?

There's a few: Tall Black Guy - Stakes are Mid Louis Culture ft Tora - I and Richie - BABE Anything from Shall I Bruk it! Mary Pearce - Love Away Deenamic - Baron’s TV Tenderlonius - Underworld

The Beatles or Elvis?

Hmmm The Beatles. But I’m more Marvin Gaye or Barry White.

Cats or dogs?

Dogs all the way. Always had dogs growing up and my parents weren’t that fond of cats and I think that was kinda intergenerationally passed onto my brother and I!

Your most cherished vinyl? Where and when did you buy it?

I have rarer, more obscure or expensive records, but I think I cherish those that I feel most connected with. That would be things people readily associate with my style of DJing, such as the early original presses of Ron Trent and Chez Damier Prescription releases and Larry Heard stuff. These artists have I feel only in the last 10 years via online media reached the size of audiences they deserve. But when I first discovered their music and bought their releases 30 years ago in the early 90s, it felt incredibly special and the impact it had upon me was huge.

The last DJ you danced to?

Sassy J at my party at The Pickle Factory a month or so back.

The song you wish you’d written?

Ricardo Miranda - 'Urbanism'

The last time you had an uncontrollable laughing fit?

Most days on my Whatsapp group with 4-5 close male friends. Shout out to the pedal bin crew!

A track that never fails to win over the dance floor?

Recently, LCSM - 'Givin It Up' featuring Allysha Joy. (LCSM is an IG culture monikor) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H4Q7pDAGJE

The thing that bugs you the most about the music industry?

Too many things to mention! I don’t know where to begin…

The person you look up to and why?

Anyone that lives their life authentically with integrity.

Your favourite non-music podcast?

I’m really interested in mental health and have ADD as well as training as a psychotherapist (but I didn’t finish the training), so I listen to a lot of neuroscience stuff like Huberman Lab. Something a bit more light hearted and fun is fashion designer Bella Freud’s new podcast “Fashion Neurosis”. She was discussing with Stefano Pilati whether one can sleep with someone with terrible dress sense (they referred to skinny jeans) in the last edition.

The best thing about being a DJ is?

It’s that pure vibe and deep connection that can be fostered on the floor between the DJ and dancers. It’s a team effort.

When on the road you can’t do without…?

My silk sleep mask...which I forgot this tour!

Your guilty pleasure fast food?

KFC. Just not the Indian franchise though! I made the mistake of trying it twice this tour.

I’ve got two releases coming on Eglo records in 2025.
